The AidWatch Initiative is a pan-European lobby and campaigns initiative monitoring and advocating on the quality and the quantity of aid provided by EU member states (EU MS) and the European Commission (EC). The AidWatch network is an active group of civil society aid experts from across the 27 EU Member States, working collectively to hold EU MS to account on their aid quality and quantity commitments.
Each year, AidWatch launches an annual report on the quantity and quality of European aid. This report is launched in countries across Europe and used to inform coordinated European lobby work to influence policy makers and hold governments to account on their aid pledges.
The network also carries out ongoing lobby, advocacy and policy development work at the national and European levels,. In addition, AidWatch also represents the EU NGO position on aid quantity and quality in the international agenda on aid. AidWatch is a member of the Better Aid Platform on aid effectiveness, and the international steering group of civil society which works with the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development to influence the official international agenda on aid effectiveness.
AidWatch also carries out media and campaigns work across Europe, tracking and reacting to new developments on aid in member states. We also coordinate our lobby activities across European to ensure our strategy is targeted at influencing the worst performers, and encouraging the best. AidWatch media activities also include work around core AidWatch issues, and high profile international events including press briefings, press releases, technical advice given to journalists, radio and television interviews.
The capacity of AidWatch members is developed through one formal annual seminar, and targeted workshops carried out throughout the course of the year.
