In view of the UN summit reviewing the Millennium Development Goals in 3 months, CONCORD has launched its own report assessing the progress of Member States regarding the quality and quantity of aid. A stunt featuring European prime ministers trying to score for development pictured how far Europe is still to reach the MDGs. Development Commissioner Piebalgs at CONCORD General Assembly undertook to make all efforts so that Member States meet their promises.
With the meetings with Herman Van Rompuy, President of the Council and UN Special representative David Nabarro, CONCORD has opened new doors and discussed the future of Development in the global world and at European level by 2020.
CONCORD has its say: reactions to the aid figures released by the OECD, to the European Commission’s spring development package, and to the proposal by High Representative Ashton on the European External Action Service. CONCORD also strengthens its links with the European Parliament through the Structured Dialogue and other meetings.
The run up to the UN Summit on the Millennium Development Goals has started. Both CONCORD and the European Commission have issued this month position papers and recommendations. CONCORD has also been very busy implementing advocacy actions with its Southern partners both at the Joint Parliamentary Assembly and at the V Euro-Latin American-Caribbean Civil Society Forum.
CONCORD is spreading its wings: Policy Coherence for Development, FAO mechanisms, MDGs, revision of the Cotonou Agreement, climate change and right of petition… CONCORD has been very active defending the rights of civil society in Europe and in the South.
The hearings of the Commissioners-designate filled the EU agenda. While awaiting the new European Commission, CONCORD has been busy informing European and ACP parliamentarians and attending the Copenhagen Summit on Climate Change.
